Birthday Party Benefits Beatitude House

Posted on: April 17th, 2012

Dakota Quinn celebrated his 8th birthday at Boardman Lanes and helped the families at Beatitude House in the process.

Dakota attended ReNew Vaction Bible School last summer at Common Ground Church Community, with his friend Christopher Lynch.  During VBS, Dakota and his family learned about Beatitude House when the children made “Pass It On Bags.” Which are grocery bags the kids decorated and took home to fill with gently used clothes, toys, and books.  After being involved in this project, the Quinn family decided they wanted to use Dakota’s birthday as another opportunity to collect items to help out the families at Beatitude House.  They asked party guests to bring batteries, new toys, and gently used clothes to send to Beatitude House instead of bringing presents for Dakota.

This isn’t the first year the family has made a donation, in fact last year for Dakota’s birthday, he and his family collected food, treats, and toys for New Lease on Life, the local animal shelter in Struthers.  They, and all the party guests, really enjoyed collecting for a good cause.

Thank you Dakota for giving to others.  Happy Birthday!

CCD Class Makes Donation

Posted on: April 2nd, 2012

The 7th grade CCD students of the combined St. Mary, Mineral Ridge/ St. Stephen, Niles parishes along with their teachers, Carmella Yakel and David Butler conducted a walk-a-thon recently.  They each got sponsors for the walk and decided to donate the monies raised to Beatitude House.

The students viewed the Beatitude House 20th Anniversary video and were so inspired by the happiness of the women and children, that they wanted to continue the work of Beatitude House with their donation.  Thank you, students, for your generosity.

Beatitude House has received $25,000 from the CFMV Unrestricted Fund, a component fund of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley. The grant will fund a collaboration with YWCA Warren to design and host a summer camp for preteen girls in both programs.

The summer camp will take place this August, spanning four weeks and focusing on girls in grades 5 through 8. Each week will boast a different theme including wildlife, science, visual media, and the Olympics. The camp will promote healthy self-esteem by increasing these girls’ educational foundations in science, math, and technology.
